And I crashed the SV on tail of the dragon. After a few days of running it getting faster and faster, something was bound to happen.
Wasnt a very big crash. Was given a point by on a left turn and I took it. Back tire hit the center line and just spun out from under me. (crazy heat + fast run+ sport touring tire being used as a race tire = nono).
Frame slider and the bar end took the impact and the slide (along with the passenegr footpeg) so bike is 100% okay.got up and kept riding it.
Me? I was fully geared. Slid down the road and got up instantly. Barely a scratch on me (though I do need to repair my riding pants now)
Ah well. A lesson learned and all that. I still have a week of riding down here, and i plan to make the most of it!

Glad you and the bike avoided any major injuries.

Good to hear you’re okay. And as scuffed up as the bike looks, just add a few stickers to the spots.

Most annoying thing? The local leather/gear repair guy isnt in today -.-’’’

New bar end, replacement slider and some nail polish on the foot peg and ill be as good as new

Oh man good to hear it went as well as it did.

Glad you’re alright. Hope Tennessee has treated you well. I’d make a detour to Nashville if you have time. Go see a 250 GTO at the Frist or a bunch of cool old unreliable cars at the Lane Museum.

Glad to hear bike and rider are all good. Bigger question is:
Did you put a piece on the tree of shame?
![]() 06/27/2016 at 11:38 |

A few more stickers should take care of the damage :D

What gear did you have on? Head to toe moto gp type of gear?

Isn't the tail of the dragon a public road

Slider looks like it really did its job well. Ride safe!

I had an off this weekend too. I’m glad to hear yours is not too injurious.
I've got a stiff knee (bruise & scrape) no biggies for injuries. My bike however... That will require a lot more work to put back in riding condition. I'm afraid the forks are bent, but I haven't given it a thorough check out yet.

Yes it is

I'm so glad you're ok buddy.

NOPE! nothing fell off the bike, so I dont have to add anything!

Mesh jacket, back protector, textile/mesh olympia pants, alpinestars smx-1 boots and gloves, käos helmet

Anything for lower back or kidney? Thinking about the jacket moving up when you’re sliding and exposing skin between the pants and jacket

Haha cool beans.
When we went with our university car club one of the guys slid off the outside of a corner in his e36 BMW.
Luckily it just bent a control arm and we had it towed from the bottom of the hill, but he had to put is marker lights on the tree.

Icon field armor back protechor. Goes down pretty far, and i wear it OVER my jacket, so it keeps that down as well
![]() 06/27/2016 at 13:35 |

Your point? If a bike is slower then the guy behind him, they give the rear dude a point by and let him do his own thing.
![]() 06/27/2016 at 14:10 |
|
Tis but a scratch. Good to see that you and the SV got away with no serious damage.
How you liking the roads down there so far?
![]() 06/27/2016 at 14:16 |
|
Well you and the bike are ok and that is what is important. Sounds like all the more reason to get out on the track and see if you can figure out and fix the real reason you went down.
![]() 06/27/2016 at 16:34 |
|
Point by? I thought you were supposed to use the little pull offs that are like every 20 feet
![]() 06/27/2016 at 17:05 |
|
Not quite every 20 feet. And u would be SHOCKED at how quickly a sport bike will fuck off through one of those corners compared to a cruiser or a car.

I know i need to work on body position more, but the bike behindme told me: wheel hit the line, wheels spun up and left the line...and your ass.

I wore out a PR4 front in less time then i took for a dunlop q3... And its not even the center thats worn out, its the right side that looks like it was attacked by a badger
That enough of an explination?

Maybe you should slow down. Take it easy. Go yellow.

Glad you are OK. Need someone to wreak havoc with next week. Or at least go to JP...

I did the dragon in my cbr600rr and made much use of them. It was fall and there were tons of people, so I kept pulling over to let large groups pass. I also rode there from my house and still had to get back, so I didn’t push it

Is that a weld job I see on the fairing?
Glad the bike, and you are both fine.

well sick the badger on the left side!

I don’t doubt the paint was the straw that broke the camels back, but I bet you’d be surprised how much more pace was left in those tires once you’ve had the practice to allow you to go get it.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 17:49 |

No wonder it won’t show up in my searches.....
![]() 06/28/2016 at 17:51 |

Oh I am. Was working with a few of the locals to help get me faster. Body positioning is VASTLY improved now.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 17:53 |

That was from the privious set of 'frame sliders' the was suzuki OEM. They just mounted to the fairing support, and bent backwards though the panel when I forgot my kickstand up (i was significantly less expiranced then I am now) so plastic welding it was

uh..after 4 days on the road with my SVS 07, I wiped out in the rain in Newark trying to get off the highway over potholed train-tracks.
2 hours from home. The SV has it’s limits though it fools you into thinking it has no limits.
![]() 06/30/2016 at 14:56 |

2 hours is better then 17. Also, this partoculwr has even higher limits. GSXR suspension all around

Good results made better with proper gear.
In 2010 I drove a friend from W Canada to Atlanta in 3 days. I did all the driving, that isn’t the story tho.
Was going to rent a bike and travel to the keys and maybe NO for a week. Then figured it made sense to buy a used bike, so I picked up a 2007 BMW R1200RT. Rode it back to West Canada. Was on the Tail of the Dragon hour 3 of my owning this bike. With all my bags loaded, I rode the balls off the bike (without crossing the centre line). It was hot. It was the end of the day. And the other end was closed by a landslide in May 2010 so there were no Tennessee Patrols on the way.
I got to the North End and the Brakes were red hot. The Pirellis stuck all the way though. Took it a bit cooler on the way back, stopping for pictures three times. Good thing, as a bear was on the road and I don’t know that I would have missed him at high speed.
Also went up to W Virginia I think to ride some road called the Snake. Pretty good as well.
Point is this. It’s not if, but when. I was doing 25 mph hour (seriously) in Spain on a 1600GT on the only road in a small town, and it bent left 90 then 200 yards later it bent right. I was following traffic.
Went to lean left and the front tire went down. Motocross instinct took over, I slammed down a gear and popped the front tire in the air, saved it, and then the back tire broke out. She came down hard on the right side after I was originally going down to the left (with a pillion).
We slid with our gear. Minor scuffs. My shin hit the frame as we flew off.
What happened? No rain on road in 4 months. Small gravel road that you could not see as it sloped away from the corner, was slowly adding dust to the road.
It’s not if, but when.

Yep. Im happy I had my gear on, anf happy it wasnt worse.
And like I said before, sooner or later my number will come up. Just happened to do so during my trip

Peter, do you really think it’s just a matter of time for every motorbiker?
I’m looking to finally make the plunge to two wheels, but your crash has given me a bit of a pause, if I’m honest.

This accident? I was riding FAST. I accepted the risk. If I was slower, I probably wouldnt have crashed it. Its a risk Im willing to take. You dont want to? Thats perfrectly fine by me. You dont need to ride fast. I simply choose to.
Sooner or later, your bike will hit the ground. Be it you left the kick stand up, you were fooling around in the dirt, or you crashed. You ride long enough, it will happen. Best thing you can do is be prepared for it. Protection for the bike and protection for you. As you can see, me and the bike got RIGHT back up and kept riding.
